Education is most important thing in the development of a nation. Of the requirements in advance of a nation can be seen in terms of educational progress. However, today we know that the condition of education decreases. Therefore, this should be no discussion that can give comprehensive solutions to improve the condition of education in Indonesia.
In the improvement of education in Indonesia today is certainly a lot of problems. Where the problems and challenges still remain the same which bear multidimensional. Education plays not only a means of knowledge transfer, but the wider cultivation in a very broad field. One of most important thing is the establishment of the civilizing character and character.
But in a critical revalued of the educational description above is still look a number of big problems facing our education. These issues are:
First, opportunities for education still remain limited. Although the government has issued a "fair" (compulsory education) 9 years, but the opportunities get basic education can not be enjoyed by all children for many reasons.
Second, education policy was highly centralized and emphasize uniformity that result in uniform load completely curriculum. Such Policy does not give space for education and development more relevant and according social conditions, culture, and economics. As a result education especially medium and college level as if the only increase number of unemployed.
Third, funding is still inadequate. Education budget is still far from adequate, not only to support the provision of infrastructure facilities but also to give adequate revenues for teachers and other teaching staff. As a result, their performance far satisfactory because they are forced to break attention and divide the time to get additional revenue than devote all their time to students and improving the quality of education.
Fourth, the accountability related with the development and maintenance of the system and the quality of education is still unbalanced. There is great difficulty in achieving quality standards, especially in the field of competence. This difficulty arises because the presence of imbalances of social conditions, culture and economy in many areas.
Fifth, the professionalism of teachers and teaching staff are still not enough. In view of the number of teachers and teaching staff are quite adequate, but viewed in terms of quality and professionalism has not met hopes. Many teachers and teaching staff still do not match, so they are less able to present and provide education that is really qualitative.
Sixth, the relevance of which was still unbalanced to the needs of society and the world of work. The worlds of education are not able to anticipate and respond to community needs and development of the world of work. Although it has made a number of policies and measures to create greater relevance to the needs of society and the world of work, but not yet enough because of the specific problems faced.
Seventh, the teacher. There are still many teachers who have not qualified to be teachers, especially in elementary education. In elementary education teachers still teach all subjects. And to teach at elementary education level needed deep understanding by teachers because it is the most important thing to lay the foundations of education and learning.
So from the above explanation can be concluded that the certification or efforts made by the government in order to improve education is not correct. There should be a review of policies to improve education and the need to find another way to fix this problem.
